Maharashtra Congress leader’s son joins BJP

MUMBAI/PUNE: Congress leader
Sujay Vikhe Patil joined BJP in presence of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and BJP state president Raosaheb Danve at MCA club in south Mumbai on Tuesday. Sujay joining BJP, is seen as a huge setback to the state Congress in
Ahmednagar known to be a Congress bastion.

Sujay, is son of opposition leader (Congress) in the state legislative assembly Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil and grandson of veteran Congress leader Balasaheb Vikhe Patil.

Sujay, a neurosurgeon, earlier this year, he had announced that he would be contesting the Lok Sabha polls this year whether or not the Congress gives him a ticket is likely to get BJP candidature to contest Lok Sabha poll from Ahmednagar.

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis while welcoming Sujay in the party, announced that the party will recommend Sujay’s candidature to the parliamentary board for the Ahemadnagar seat and confident that the party will not deny him a ticket. “I am confident that Sujay will win the seat with record break votes,” said Fadnavis.

Sujay had last week met state minister and BJP leader Girish Mahajan in Mumbai, sparking rumours of his entry into the ruling party, officially join the party on Tuesday.

While addressing the crowd at MCA club Sujay said, “Joining BJP was my own decision and I had to go against my father’s view.”

“Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stood behind me like a father figure, in my bad days. I am happy to join BJP,” added Sujay.
